I bet on the embedded battery saver of our brain, as understanding costs energy. It takes so much less energy just to label someone 'illogical' and ignore them afterwards.
If I had to guess, it's because people want to believe they have agency... It's far too depressing to realise you're mostly a product of the systems you're embedded in rather than the author of your own story. Systems thinking highlights that reality.
Brilliant breakdown of the institutional friction problem. The UK research-to-execution gap is real and kinda painful to watch up close. When you frame it as an "exploitable asymetry" though, it totally recontextualizes the chaos we're seeing. I've noticed this same pattern playin out in startups stuck between academic rigor and market speed, seems institutions just can't operate at both simultaneously.
